Sulphabria
The oldest fungicide there is, and still the cheapest powdery mildew control.

Sulphabria is elemental sulphur at 80%. It has been used against powdery mildew for two centuries and remains the cheapest effective control, with no resistance ever recorded. It also suppresses mites, is accepted in organic production, and corrects sulphur deficiency as a side effect. The one thing it demands is attention to temperature: above about 30°C it scorches, and it must never be applied near an oil treatment.
Characteristics
- The most economical powdery mildew control available
- No resistance recorded in two centuries of use
- Useful secondary activity against mites
- Accepted in organic production
- Also corrects sulphur deficiency in the crop
- FRAC Group M2 — multi-site
How it works
Sulphur is taken up by the fungus and interferes with electron transport and thiol-group enzymes, and it acts partly in vapour phase, which is why it reaches mildew in shaded canopy. Vapour activity rises with temperature — which is also why it becomes phytotoxic in heat.
